Since graduating from college, Brian has dedicated his life to coaching and teaching, and helping young people get better on the court but, much more importantly, becoming better students and people. While he wants to win games, he realizes a big part of the job is getting the players ready for the real world.
As an athlete, Brian played with The College Of Mount Saint Vincent for 4 years where he ranked 7th all time for assist average and 9th overall assists for the NCAA. His discipline and strong work ethic, as well as his love for the sport, naturally led him to becoming a coach.
He received his first coaching position as an Assistant coach at Globe Institute of Technology which was a Division 1 Junior college. Responsible for recruitment, Brian quickly developed an eye for raw talent and how to best shape young athletes futures.
This led him to his first head coaching position overseeing the Boys basketball program for Berkeley Carroll. He would spend 3 years there, guiding not only their athletic growth but also overseeing their academic progress.
This would lead him back to his high school alma mater, Xaverian high school, in 2005 where he would eventually oversee the crucial J.V. program for boys basketball. Under his guidance, the J.V. team became a key element for athlete development and recruitment for the Varsity team.
Afterward, Brian became Head Coach at The College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale where he would stay for nine seasons. His best season of basketball was an 18 win season leading to a semifinal playoff appearance, all with a team that had 13 freshmen on the roster. He also recruited the Rookie Of The Year for the Skyline Conference that year as well. He would eventually rise to the position of Associate Director of Athletics where he would act as team liaison for men's soccer, baseball, cross country and swimming and ensure solid communication between the athletics department and admissions. He was also responsible for hiring, mentoring and developing all head coaches and assistant coaches as well as managing the department's budget.
However, the achievement he’s most proud of is his team being recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches for academic achievement as a team, earning a GPA of over 3.0 in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
Currently, Brian is set to begin his second season as Head Coach at Medgar Evers. His first season saw an increase in total wins but, more importantly, he led a team that competed at the highest level night in and night out. Wins over NYU, Old Westbury, Baruch, and CSI were highlights of the season. Brian also recorded his 100th college career win vs Baruch College
Brian is a lifelong resident of Brooklyn. He currently resides in Mill Basin with his wife Claudia and children Brian Jr. and Brooke.
